You might remember this time last year I had a second shop called City Song Vintage, well I’m finally getting around to updating it! I’ve been literally hoarding tons of vintage clothing, I’m going to be adding more soon but for right now it’s filled with shoes and jewelry.

today i:

• donated blood for the first time!! nearly vomited, but it was worth it.
• received my fabulous dannyb stickers! love ‘em to bits!
• gave myself the ol’ knuckle tatts (habit of mine for a few years->old post & photos about it hurrrr)
• am going to sleep early (as in, right now yusss~)

I was deeply saddened over the loss of Maurice Sendak, like most kids I’m sure, “Where The Wild Things Are,” was one of my favorite books growing up. I remember getting it at the library with my first library card, I was always drawn to the books with big, big illustrations. So anyway when the girls at Ten Paces & Draw asked me to illustrate something for a Sendak tribute post, I jumped at the chance to be apart of it. 

I didn’t really sketch it out, I just put the pencil to the paper with a general idea and this is where i landed. I went with the idea of Max but I did a gender swap, much like Natasha Allegri’s gender swapped Adventure Time characters. I just wanted to have a very somber looking Max holding the boat that she comes to the island on.

This passed weekend was the opening for Starter Art at Bear and Bird here in South Florida, I couldn’t make it to the opening but the set up looks really awesome! I’m going to have to swing by Bear and Bird sometime this week to see it in person. 

It’s always an honor to be in the same show as some of my favorite artists like Danielle “knee” Estefan, Helena Garcia, Mab Graves, Matt Cipov, Nan Lawson, Sashiko Yuen, and Tatiana Suarez. if you’re in town, make sure to check the show out. It’ll be on display until June 23rd, check bear and bird.com for the hours the gallery is open.

“Relics” and “Gems” 5” x 6 1/2” Watercolor and Pencil on Paper mounted onto wood

I did both of these pieces for an upcoming show at Bear and Bird called Starter Art, everything in the show will be $100 or less, perfect for a person just starting an art collection.

Relics was inspired by the tooth drama I had last month, I had to have an extraction and it was a nightmare. Gems is inspired by my obsession with pastel goths right now, teen subcultures in general are insanely vast now, and it’s kind of fascinating. 

I’ll post some detail photos later this afternoon. 

Both pieces will be on display at Bear and Bird May 5th through June 23rd. The opening is May 5th 6-10pm.

Here’s a tote design I’m working on, it’s going to be for Record Store Day. I’ll be vending at Radio Active Records with all my usual art stuff. I’m designing a few music-y type things for this event. I’m pretty happy with this, what do you think?
